Measured Protest Must Be Heard ......

Measured Protest Must Be Heard ……

Thanks to a FOI request a copy of the KSA letter sent via Templemans on 24th September ….

Dear Sirs

We are instructed by the parents of pupils attending (KSA) who have expressed concern with regard to signs which have been put up in protest against this school opening at Pioneer House.

Several of the children have stated they do not wish to attend this school as they are “afraid”. We are concerned at the intimidation and indeed the psychological effects of these signs on the children together with the children’s reluctance to attend this school.

We herewith put you on notice that, following further investigations, we may begin an action against the Parish Council and the individuals of the Parish Council whom we understand have erected the signs and indeed we may take action against SBDC/BCC as parties to this action.

Before we take this matter forward, however, we shall be obliged if you could kindly forward to us the Planning Permissions granted for these signs ……

A few things spring to mind:

those would presumably be the same children shouting abuse out of car windows at the opening evening?

since the letter was not copied to “the Parish Council and the individuals of the Parish Council” it must be assumed that KSA is engaging with SPPC in its usually ignorant fashion (ie through other people)

This letter was subsequently followed up on the 11th October by a letter to the Chief Executive of SBDC from the Chair of Trustees at KSA. It reads as follows:

……”This remaining issue is that none of the illegal signs on fences or public places have been removed. I understood by your response that you were going to ask your colleagues take enforcement action. (the execrable grammar is in the original letter – clearly this individual has not heard of the infinitive ….)

Furthermore the illegal signs on the verges have now and appeared on the fences on Hollybush Hill and state “42 weeks till we have to go” (again, the extraordinary mangling of prepositions is in the original letter).

Just one point arises from this ….

How on earth can someone with such a poor grasp of English grammar be the Chair of Trustees for an educational establishment? No wonder children are reluctant to attend the school.

Finally, we have now had 2 banners stolen in the village. As we discussed yesterday, Freedom of Expression is fundamental to the Human Rights Act. We must ensure that our measured protests are heard loud and clear ….. ALL human beings have rights.
