So, we don’t WANT a new school in South Buckinghamshire, and we certainly don’t NEED one. So, question to politicians: when can I expect my reduction in Council Tax?
After all, Buckinghamshire County Council’s 2013-14 Revenue Budget shows the following figures:
Planning and Transportation £29.63m or 8.8% of total annual budget
This represents a 6.94% increase over 2012/13 because – as Bucks CC say on their website – “we’ve also listened to the views of residents who, as two of their highest priorities, wanted more investment in roads and no increase in council tax. We’ve delivered on both – an additional £25 million into roads over the next two years and freezing council tax levels for a third year running. This means that for 2013/14 the average band D household will pay £1,077.74, the same as last year.”
We now have unwanted and unnecessary cars and coaches pouring into South Bucks, so I have to assume that Stoke Poges is going to be compensated by Slough and West London authorities for damage their residents are doing to our country lanes, highways, etc. And when that money comes through, I’ll have a rebate please.
At the end of the day you can’t have it both ways – you can’t have local funding for things decided by Central Government, whether Education or Skills budgets or Transport and Highways budgets. Feels like someone’s double counting somewhere along the line and we’re the ones being squeezed in the middle. No wonder so many of us are totally hacked off by politics in this country.
